Happy New Year, everyone.
Yes, for those of us who have made it into the New Year, we are still on the clock. We still have time to set goals, pursue dreams, mend fences, and do any thing that will make our lives count. Last year, I made a spur of the moment decision to go back to school because I am embarking on a career overhaul of sorts. I packed up my bags and my son and moved to a foreign country where I knew nobody to begin this part of my journey on earth. At some point, I was discouraged by a few people who thought it was not a smart idea because of the Nigerian economy and because of my age.
I am never afraid to try anything. If I do not achieve a goal that I have set for myself, let it not be for want of trying. I always keep at the back of my mind the fact that my grandmother started her professional business at the age of 61. She had a fulfilling and successful run of it until her children forced her to shut down her Maternity at age 85. She passed away last year at the ripe old age of 104.
Last year, I attended a book launch for a novel written by a woman in her 70s – her first foray into writing. Writing a book is not an easy task, but between being a grandma and keeping up with her life’s demands, she found time to tap away at her keyboard, one index finger at a time and she produced a book. You have to admire that kind of passion for living one’s life up to its full potential.
Everyone has their own journey in life and we must strive to stay true it. That means that you cannot measure your success against someone else’s. Stay true to your course and pursue every milestone with passion. I truly believe that if you work hard, with passion and wisdom, and swallow all that with a heavy dose of faith, you can achieve your dreams. For some people it takes longer than others, but we do not give up and we do not allow fear to tell us what we can or cannot do, where we can or cannot go.
I pray for life and good health; the hard work is the easy part.
Happy 2016!
